Job Description and Duties

Under the direction of the Chief Counsel, the incumbent plans and manages enforcement of the California Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (CalNAGPRA; AB-275) and provides assistance to tribes, state and local agencies, museums, and higher educational institutions in their compliance efforts with the CalNAGPRA, federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (federal act), Assembly Bill No. 2836 and 25 U.S. Code section 3000. The incumbent working with upper management or other higher level Attorneys may also provide enforcement and legal research to draft regulations for CalNAGPRA and other cultural resources protection statutes enforced by the Native American Heritage Commission (NAHC) and draft internal policies and procedures regarding enforcement, investigations, and mediations under laws enforced by NAHC.
