Beginning June 2023, on the first business Monday of the month, and every month hereafter, the Native American Heritage Commission (NAHC) will begin updating and listing Inventories & Summaries (Collections) found in the Tribal Resource: Collections – Database tab on the NAHC Website (Site) to the Preliminary Inventories & Summaries tab on the Site that meet the requirements set forth in Health and Safety Code (HSC) section 8013(b) or (c). The Collection’s progression to Preliminary Status initiates the 30-Day Tribal Review Period set forth in HSC section 8013(j).

The NAHC will also post all Unverified Pending Claims, Verified Pending Claims, Accepted Claims, and Disputed Claims beginning June 2023 in the Claims/Request for Repatriation tab on the Site.

Unverified Pending Claim: a Claim that has not met the criteria set forth in HSC section 8016(a).

Verified Pending Claim: a Claim that meets the criteria set forth in HSC section 8016(a), however, has not passed the 30-day timeline for an Institution to object to the Claim pursuant to HSC section 8016(c).

Accepted Claim: a verified Claim that has passed the 30-day timeline for an Institution to object to the Claim and has no disputes arising from any competing Claims.

Disputed Claim: a Claim that has been objected to by an Institution, or a Claim that is disputed by a competing Claim.
